Let’s be honest—tossing thousands of dollars at a dress I’d wear once never sat right with me. Even though traditional ballgowns are gorgeous, I couldn't wrap my head around buying something expensive just to have it gather dust in my closet after one day. I wanted simple, elegant, and most importantly, affordable.

After tons of scrolling, I landed on a chiffon and lace number. When the box arrived, I was a little nervous. But I was genuinely surprised by how good it looked in person. My Hair, Makeup, and Bouquet
I wanted to look like me, not a mannequin. For hair, I stuck with my natural dark brown color in long, loose waves. I tucked one side back with a tiny, super minimal hairpiece. Nothing overly done.

For makeup, I kept the base really light and fresh. I went with a bold, classic red lip to add some drama, paired with a pretty natural eye. That red lip actually became the common thread for the whole day, because my bouquet featured deep crimson red blooms mixed with white flowers and green leaves. The colors tied everything together.

Embracing the Tattoos
I also decided to just let my arm tattoos show. No hiding them under sleeves or gloves. It’s a huge part of who I am, and I think it gave the whole look a bit of an edge that matched that urban backdrop. A lot of people worry that tattoos clash with wedding dresses, but honestly, the white lace and colorful ink looked really cool together.

The Best Part? The People.
What I really love about these photos is that we kept the whole thing low-pressure. My dad showed up in a blue and red plaid button-down and khakis, my mom wore a super comfy white floral dress, and my brother was just in a navy polo and jeans. They didn’t have to buy fancy suits or gowns.

We just grabbed a good spot on the sidewalk and took these candid shots. It felt natural, not like a long, exhausting production.

My new husband and I even snuck in a quick shot walking away from the fire escape, looking back over our shoulders. That unguarded moment—the kind you can't plan with a strict itinerary—ended up being one of my favorites.

I never once felt like I was wearing a "budget" dress. It photographed great, I didn't have to pull at it all night, and I got genuinely shocked reactions when I told people I spent less than $200.
